Symposium Day 6 // 4 November 2014 (Academic Conference Day 2)
STREAM 06: PUBLIC SPACE
Chair: Flounder Lee (AUD)
It was my first experience of attending an international conference which resonated so strongly with my practice and it was such an accolade to be involved in presenting at ISEA2014.
The paper presented how creative technologies were explored to create site-responsive immersive installations and performances, the methodologies and collaborative approaches that I directed within a heritage site - Chirk Castle, Wales. It discussed the background and the context of the research, using examples of my own work, specifically the technology used for one of the pieces - Eirlysiau. It is constructed of 50, suspended vertically-aligned sculptural snowdrops. Each snowdrop sculpture (figure 4) was embedded with an LED. Fleeting light ignited each of the 50 individual lenses to the sound of shattering glass. Finally, I will reflect on the resulting public event.
